The
biggest development in last manufacture over recent years has been the
introduction of digitizing machines which allow a last to be effectively
scanned and re-produced exactly on a computer screen. Software such as
the Forma 2000 system that we use, enables us to manipulate a last digitally
– modifying heel height, lengthening toes, adding sock allowances
or boot back-parts and more.
This
software also allows Spring Line to link up with other last manufacturers
around the world. We are currently sending digital model lasts by email
to China, Taiwan, Vietnam, Thailand, India and Portugal. We can also receive
data from these companies and turn lasts here. As shoe manufacturers have
moved their manufacture abroad, modelling has become an important part
of our business, enabling customers to continue to benefit from having
their models developed by a company that understands their market and
the fit they need to achieve.
